Independant Living Skills Training
Individualized instruction helps participants gain skills that enable them to live more independently.
Topics may include:
- Self Advocacy Skills
- Problem Solving
- GED Preparation
- Managing a personal budget
- Computer skills training
- pre-vocational skills
- literacy
- other topics covering almost every aspect of independent life
Peer Support
Sometimes another person with a disability may have just the answers you need.
- We encourage all participants to work together to work together to explore options and to solve problems
- Why reinvent the wheel when someone has already met and solved that problem?
- The Center provides meeting space and support to various disability support groups.
Advocacy
We Provide two kinds of advocacy
- Individual advocacy that includes Center Staff working with persons to obtain the necessary support services from other agencies within their community
- Systems Advocacy which includes activities to make changes in the community that make it easier for all persons with disabilities to live more independently
Personal Care Attendant Program- PCAP
The Kentucky Personal Care Attendant Program provides assistance to mentally alert, severely disabled adults in the Barren River Area Development District.
The program is designed for the disabled person who wants to live independently but needs both:
- The help of a personal care attendant
- The financial assistance necessary to hire an attendant
